Adesina Illuyemi, Co-Chair Global Health Commission,
NEPAD (New Economic Partnership for Africa's Development) Council
Dr Adesina Iluyemi is an expert on mHealth and Telemedicine in developing countries especially those in Africa. Professionally, he is a dentist by training, with background in public health and health technology/telemedicine socio-technical evaluations, management and policy development with specific focus on Africa. He possesses a Diploma in Dental Public Health from the Royal College of Surgeons, England and a Masters from the University of London. A Young Fellow and Council member Telemedicine & eHealth Section of the Royal Society of Medicine, England. He is a final year doctoral candidate at the University of Portsmouth, UK.
He has also attended, published and presented in various national and international conferences on these topics. A recent major contribution to a new report on mHealth in Developing Countries by the United Nations/Vodafone Foundation highlights his expertise on mHealth development in developing countries. Other high-level contributions include: a recent chapter in a landmark book published by the Royal Society of Medicine on Telehealth in Developing Countries and a major contribution to European Technology Platform eMobility (mHealth) Applications Strategic Research Areas document. He also participated actively as an invited speaker and contributor to the United Nation ESOSOC meeting on eHealth in Africa held Accra Ghana in June 2009. A presentation at the European Union in March this year at the Euro-Africa ICT Summit on eHealth sustainability in Africa is another example.
He co-chairs the Global Health Commission of the NEPAD Council. He acts as an Observer to International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Q14 eHealth Working Group and a Member of European Technology Platform eMobility Application Working Group and of Mobile Government Consortium International. He is a full member of the Association for Healthcare Technology and Management; International Society for Telemedicine & eHealth and an invited expert to the W3C Mobile Web for Development. He is an invited expert to the W3C Mobile Web for Development. He has business management diploma from the Chartered Management Institute, England.
